WHICH BIN TIPS

Shredded paper cannot be recycled in the recycle bin.

But it’s paper, so why can’t shredded paper be recycled?

Shredded paper filters through other recyclable materials such as glass jars, plastic containers and cans causing contamination issues. The shredded pieces are also too small to be collected through the materials recycling facility (MFR). For this reason it can’t be placed in your yellow lidded recycle bin.

Instead place it in your green lidded food and garden organics (FOGO) bin, as it helps to absorb moisture, reduce smells and acts as a great source of carbon for when it is made into compost along with your food and garden materials.
